poster design

I designed this project during a two-day workshop taught by Wally Krantz. The focus of the workshop was using obfuscation (making something initially unclear or unintelligible) in graphic design. Problems Between Sisters is a new stage play performed in Washington DC that follows the story of two sisters and their family drama.

overview

I designed this poster with obfuscation in mind. To me, this meant finding out just how much of each letterform I could cover up in order to retain its legibility. I identified the most important part of each letter and covered up the “extra information.” Again, the goal of this project was to advertise the play, but to make the viewer work at deciphering the message.

obfuscation

I used design to portray the themes of deception, conflict, and family ties prevalent in the play. Obfuscation was a way to shake things up and intentionally make the viewer search for the information that is being presented.
